Frankly, we're a bit tired of the Michelle Wie sideshow on the men's PGA Tour. No question the Hawaiian teen is immensely talented for her age and sex and may come to dominate the women's tour ... if she doesn't burn out before she's 20 from all the overhyped expectations. But to regard her as a serious participant in a men's event is ludicrous.
Does Wie sell tickets to some curious fans at third-rate events like the John Deere? Perhaps. But are the extra few bucks worth the circus freak show reputation it creates? In her limited, orchestrated appearances the past couple years, Michelle has produced plenty of excuses for failure -- putting, green reading, driving, irons, flying bugs, long pants, heat stroke ... as well as some can't-close-the-deal near-misses in women's majors.
It's time to shed the Wiemania entourage and just play. Michelle, let your clubs do the talking. Just win, baby ... anything ... then you'll be worth our attention.
